Poem] Timo Schmitz: “Justice” (Korean in Hangul and Hanja and English translation)

Justice
By Timo Schmitz, 17 August 2017

Freedom – I search you,
Walking through Seoul’s one way-roads,
Pyongyang’s Taedong River cries,
Borders north and south block our future,
Tomorrows light can not shine and flow,
Freedom – I love you,
The workers in North and South
Won’t swallow oppression!

[Poem] Мари Мангошвили и Тимо Шмитц: “Сила любви” / Mari Mangoshvili and Timo Schmitz: “The Power of Love” – Russian Poem with English tanslation

The Power of Love
By Mari Mangoshvili and Timo Schmitz – 21 July 2017

Everry night I look at a star,
Like a mirror in my eyes, it is so fascinating,
Like a fire in the sky, shining light on my way,
But in my heart there is only you,
An invisible force returning to my mind,
As big as an ocean –
Destroying all my grief,
I will laways be with you,
Keeping the fire of love forever,
You are mysoul, my country,
My love, my territory,
My joy is united in you,
As you are te meaning of my life,
The force against all our enemies and bad people,
Your eternal beauty is comparable
To the angelic face of Queen Tamar,
Enlightening the road to heaven!

Chechnya, my beautiful land,
Strong people, strong land,
You are the ruler of the Caucasus,
My heart is rejoicing!
We in Europe are missing you,
Chechnya, you were ours,
Chechens are everywhere in the world,
The sun always shines brightly,
Chechnya, where are you my love?

Ramadan
By Timo Schmitz

You are the highest gift of God,
We forget simplicity just too often,
But once in a year you ask us,
To return to the way which you taught to us,
We are so thankful for your gift,
And that we can do good for You!
The world consists of a divine plan,
And every year, people celebrate Ramadan!

Grozny
By Timo Schmitz

My beloved Grozny,
you stay still young,
the Cossacks founded the town,
but nowadays you are the heart of our nation,
our Chechen great heroes,
all enemies fear,
reconstructed out of a ruined town,
Chechnya’s heart is our mosque,
And flowers are everywhere around it.

[Poem] Timo Schmitz: “Свобода” (Freedom) – Russian with English translation – 2017

English Translation:

Freedom
By Timo Schmitz

I remember you, it’s long ago,
But today I know, you are far away,
The mountains are full of grief,
Now the dead are sleeping there,
Every night I hear their cry,
Every night I hear their death rattle,
I dream that I can live,
where children smile; maybe,
where I do not need to forget who I am –
Freedom, I love you!

[Poem] Timo Schmitz: “The Chechen Wars” (Чеченские войны) – Russian with English translation – 2017

The Chechen Wars
By Timo Schmitz

Blood runs through the streets of Samashki,
Blood runs through the home’s eyes,
Bombed is every home in Grozny,
Chechen cildren are screaming in the morning.

Mountaineer, know, that we won’t forget,
Your strong resistance of your borderland,
Mass graves in Achkhoy-Martan,
Thirst of Khankala,
Shadow of Gudermes,
Where are you, darling? Where do you sleep?

Chechen girls are very beautiful,
Their hair is covered by a veil,
Their eyes are shining bright,

And I just go to hide,

Timo Schmitz: “To Zeynep” (2017)

When stars are burning in the sky,
In a dark, weird gloomy night,
And thunders breaking out at time,
Exchanging ruby’s fire light,
Two energies free themselves in delight,
And brightful gets the gloomy night.

When powers stronger than human might,
Like Sandstorms in a Sahara’s night,
Crash together and make a big one,
Then something amazing among them is done.

When even unreachable and so far away,
A little universe is missing you,
I realise that universe is me,
And you are the life essence I need going through,
Like nourishment to survive,
I want you forever to stay.

Oh God, almighty, who created this miracle,
Let us be together in a union and give us thy blessing,
For we want to love in your name, and do the good,
And never shall disguise appear among us,
Never devilish spirits fuel our lust;
And always stay clear and pure, as we were taught,
Live love for love as only in love we thought.

You are in me, I am in you, we are one,
You are the moon, I am the sun,
But thanks to God we create a oneness in eternity,
So that this love is a rainbow of fertility,
The seeds of why we are meant to be,
Like a flower gives the nectar to the bee.

But right now, I miss you so much,
Your soft hand I want to touch,
I dream of never let it go,
To protect you forever, you have to know,
I stay besides you and never go astray,
I will be loyal to you and never go away,
And as more as I think of you, I realise,
I will love you forever, even when life eve’s arrives.

And while I touch your hand, we walk through life,
I want to guide you, so that finally we arrive,
Where our journey shall lead us together,
And arm in arm we walk together forever.

And when you are sad, and life feels hard,
When you feel everything is splitting apart,
I even stronger hold your hand,
And do, as you will to me demand.
And take your pain into myself,
Because your happiness is my wealth.

And when you cry all night for me,
Then know that all day I can see,
Your picture in front of me all the time,
And wishing you are just doing fine,
And rise my hand up to the sky,
To touch the yours so far away.

God, I pray to you, let me be with her,
I will treat her like she’s your angel,
And keep care that her wings are never broken.
I call her my princess, I call her my life,
I respect her dreams, I call her my wife.

I won’t put dirt upon her scarf,
I will praise her each day,
I will keep this jewel in love,
I will treasure her beauty,
And keep all my duties.

When it’s raining any night,
I know that somewhere you’re missing me,
When the water on the streets form a river,
I know, that you are the life-giving essence,
Which deserves to be my master,
So that my heart is purified,
By your intensive love,
And if one day, your lips touch the mine,
The fruits of love you will dine,
My love you make me drunk like wine,
And every time I feel your hand on my skin,
Thousand butterflies in my heart remember me,
That all my attention belongs only to you.

Let’s grow old in unity, no matter what comes,
Enjoy every second, because time always runs,
And when one day, one of us has to go,
My only wish will be to meet you again,
Where forever is not just a word,
Where love is not just written on bombed walls,
And where there is only you and me,
Bathing in the ocean of eternal love,
And where beauty is in everything you touch,
In every flower, like every flower you created in life,
That you gave your love,
Your safety, your heart,
Which is a heart based on our heart,
And smiles, like you smiled to me all life.

When stars are burning in the sky,
In a dark, weird gloomy night,
And thunders breaking out at time,
Exchanging ruby’s fire light,
Two energies free themselves in delight,
And brightful gets the gloomy night.
Then powers stronger than human might,
Crash together and make a big one,
and something amazing among them is done,
and the world knows, I love you all my life!

Timo Schmitz: “Poetry about the Vaynakh deportation on 23 February 1944” (2017) [PDF]

On 23 February 1944, Stalin started to deport the whole Chechen and Ingush nation to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan within 2 weeks. Although they lived 13 years in exile, they did not accept assimilation and kept their traditions and values, aad when they returned they continued to live like before. However, the Vaynakh deportation is probably the darkest chapter of contemporary history of Chechnya and Ingushetia, as well as one of the most inhuman acts under Stalinism, and thus an important theme for literature. In this article, I analyse three poems and the way they deal with the deportation.
