Timo Schmitz: “A very short introduction into African Philosophy and their main streams” (2017) [PDF]

What is African philosophy and what are the main streams of contemporary African philosophy? Although Africa has a very long and rich philosophical tradition, a modern philosophical approach focussing on Africa only started in the 20th century. However, it soon emancipated itself and also tried to go back to its pre-colonial roots on the one side, but doesn’t deny Western methodology on the other side. As a result, students of philosophy in Africa have an important advantage which students in the West don’t have. DOWNLOAD THE ARTICLE BELOW AND READ MORE!

[Poem] Timo Schmitz: “Één mensheid” (One mankind) – Flemish with English translation – 3 September 2017

Translation:

One mankind
By Timo Schmitz

I want to see the morning’s dawn,
Before the hope dies,
I want to know what luck is,
Whether dreams are really true?
I want to dance in the sunshine,
The universe is big, but I am small.

I want to see the morning’s dawn,
Millions of people are suffering,
We have only one planet,
Too many wishes for a comet,
No more room for so much grief,
The universe is big, but the world is small.
